*Entrepreneur Gunduz Gasimli Leads Successful Mangrove Planting Initiative in Phuket to Highlight Climate Action*

Phuket, Thailand – April 15, 2024 – Gunduz Gasimli, originally from Azerbaijan and a recognized entrepreneur in Thailand, recently led a significant environmental initiative on April 22th that saw the planting of over a thousand mangrove trees in Phuket. This effort was part of a broader campaign to engage the local community in climate action and raise awareness about the upcoming COP29 conference scheduled in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November 2024.

The initiative successfully mobilized volunteers from across Phuket, including members of the local Azerbaijani diaspora, environmental enthusiasts, and residents, to take part in this vital effort to combat climate change. Mangroves, known for their extraordinary ability to sequester carbon dioxide — at a rate four times greater than that of rainforests — were chosen for their impactful role in offsetting carbon emissions and their essential benefits to coastal ecosystems.

Reflecting on the event, Gasimli stated, “This mangrove planting initiative was not just about planting trees; it was about sowing the seeds of awareness and action within our community. With COP29 on the horizon, it’s imperative that we all recognize the role we can play in combating climate change. The enthusiasm and turnout we saw on April 22th were inspiring and a positive signal that together, we can make a difference.”

The initiative also marked the beginning of a series of green projects led by Gasimli in Phuket, aimed at fostering sustainable development and environmental stewardship. By bringing attention to the critical discussions and negotiations that will take place at COP29, Gasimli hopes to inspire continued community-driven efforts towards global climate solutions.

“The success of our mangrove planting day goes beyond the number of trees planted; it's a reflection of our collective commitment to the environment and our shared future. Mangroves are a vital part of our coastal ecosystem, offering not only a buffer against erosion but also a habitat for biodiversity and a natural solution to climate change,” Gasimli added.

This initiative underscores the power of community action in addressing global environmental challenges and sets a precedent for future environmental stewardship in Phuket and beyond.
